Terms of service

The agreement between you and Popalong: who can use it, what you're responsible for when you host, and what we owe you in return.

Last updated 3 September 2026

These terms

Popalong is operated by Oliver Glaas, a sole trader based in the United Kingdom. These terms are the agreement between you and us for your use of the service.

By creating an account you accept them. If you don’t, please don’t use Popalong. How we handle personal data is covered separately in our privacy policy, which forms part of this agreement.

Replying to an invitation does not require an account and does not make you a party to these terms — only the parts about acceptable use apply to you, because they have to.

Who can use Popalong

You must be 18 or over to create an account. Popalong is built for adults organising social events, and we do not offer it to children. If we find out an account holder is under 18, we will close the account and delete the data on it.

Your account

  • Give accurate details when you sign up, and keep your email address up to date so you can recover access.
  • Keep your password to yourself. You are responsible for what happens under your account, unless someone got in through a fault of ours.
  • One account per person. Don’t impersonate anybody or sign up on someone else’s behalf.
  • Tell us at privacy@popalong.app if you think someone else has got into your account.

If you host an event

Hosting gives you real responsibilities, because you are handling other people’s information and organising something they may turn up to.

  • Only invite people who would expect it. Enter contact details for people you actually know and who would not be surprised to hear from you about this event. Popalong is not a tool for bulk or cold outreach, and using it as one is a breach of these terms.
  • You are responsible for the contact details you enter. You must have a proper reason to hold them. We provide the invite wording and the opt-out route, but the decision to invite is yours.
  • Your event is yours. We are not the organiser, we do not run it, and we are not responsible for whether it happens, what it is like, or what occurs there.
  • If a guest asks you to stop contacting them, stop. If they ask us, we will remove their details and tell you nothing further about it.

Acceptable use

Don’t use Popalong to:

  • send spam, chain invitations, or anything commercial dressed up as a social invitation;
  • harass, bully, threaten or abuse anyone, in event chat or through an invitation;
  • post anything unlawful, or anything you don’t have the right to post;
  • break, probe or overload the service, get around its limits, or access data that isn’t yours;
  • scrape the service or resell access to it.

Report anything that breaks these rules to privacy@popalong.app.

Your content

Your events, images and messages remain yours. We claim no ownership of them.

You give us permission to store, copy and display that content only so far as we need to in order to run the service — showing your event page to the people you invited, putting your cover image on it, and delivering your messages. That permission ends when you delete the content or your account, apart from backups that age out on their own.

Messages you post in event chat are visible to everyone on that event, and deleting your account does not retract what other guests have already read.

Availability

Popalong is early software offered free of charge. We work to keep it up, but we don’t promise it will be available without interruption, and we may change or remove features as it develops.

Don’t rely on it as your only record of an event. If something genuinely matters — a date, a venue, a guest’s reply — keep your own copy of it.

Ending it

You can delete your account at any time from your profile page. That removes your data as described in our privacy policy.

We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, particularly the rules on inviting people. Where it is reasonable to do so we will warn you first and give you a chance to put it right; for serious cases, such as harassment, we may act immediately.

Our responsibility to you

Popalong is provided as it is, free of charge, and we don’t promise it will be fit for any particular purpose. We are not responsible for events themselves, for what hosts or guests do, or for anything that happens at a gathering organised through the app.

We are responsible for loss you suffer that is a foreseeable result of us breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care. We are not responsible for loss that was not foreseeable, or for business losses.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot legally be limited — including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for your rights as a consumer under UK law.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the product changes, and the date at the top will change with them. If a change materially affects your rights we will email account holders rather than leaving you to spot it. Carrying on using Popalong after a change means you accept the updated terms; if you don’t, you can delete your account.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and disputes may be brought in the courts of England and Wales. If you live elsewhere in the UK, you keep the right to bring proceedings in your own jurisdiction.
